GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the general supervisor of the Aquatics Supervisor(s), the Waterfront Director directly oversees White Pond beach operations including but not limited to member interactions, oversight of Head Lifeguards and Lifeguards, and confirming visitors have properly been checked in. This position requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and creative thinking. Performs varied duties requiring the ability to exercise judgment and initiative in completing tasks, including lifeguarding the beach, setting expectations, or back up park attendant. Incumbent is called upon to handle a significant amount of details, each varying from the other in substance and content, requiring incumbent to approach workload with flexibility.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  •  Receives general direction and supervision from the Aquatics Supervisor and Beede Swim and Fitness Center General Manager.
  •   Responsible for direct supervision of lifeguards and Head Lifeguards and scheduling
  •  To establish and maintain beach policies and procedures to ensure professional standards of operation.
  •  Assist in the planning and implementing staff training for seasonal operation.
  •  Ensure all staff is trained in proper use of beachfront equipment and monitor proper use.
  •  Ensures that lifeguard staff are properly dressed and in uniform during hours of operation.
  •  Survey waterfront area daily, and keep the area free of hazards and debris.
  • Assure all documentation required by the Department and Board of Health is completed in a timely, accurate manner.
  •  Address all environmental, guest and staff concerns effectively and efficiently.
  •  Conduct a daily check of facility for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.
  •  Assign, maintain and oversees employee’s work schedule and daily tasks. Ensures adequate coverage of the swim area by lifeguards during all hours of operation.
  •  Makes all weather related decisions in coordination with the Recreation Supervisor during White Pond hours of operation.
  •  Maintain an inventory list and assure all equipment is in working order at all times.
  •  Provide written and verbal evaluations of all beachfront staff by assigned deadlines.
  •  Oversees beachfront office operations including checking timecards and schedule.
  •  Performs other related duties as assigned by the Aquatics Supervisor/Beede Center GM

 

 SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Directly supervises the activities and performance of lifeguards and provides functional oversight to other aquatics staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Concord’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include scheduling staff, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  •  Experience working in a recreation or leisure setting, preferred.
  •  Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  •  Applicant should have a minimum of 2 years waterfront experience.
  •  American Red Cross Lifeguard Training (includes First Aid & CPR) with Waterfront Certification.

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Thorough understanding of customer service and its relationship to participant satisfaction.  Excellent customer service skills to communicate effectively with all members of the public, including children, adults, and senior citizens in a courteous and tactful manner, and to enforce facility rules and regulations.
  •  Must be dependable, punctual and able to work flexible working hours.
  •  Ability to lead, motivate, and train a team and maintain effective working relationships.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and be must able to stand for long periods of time.

This is an outdoor position and can be susceptible to extreme variations of temperature, noise, odors, etc.  Majority of work is performed in a moderately noisy work environment, with constant interruptions.  Frequently subjected to the demands of other individuals and the volume and /or rapidity with which tasks must be accomplished.

Work may be performed in various weather events, including temperature, precipitation, among others.

May operate computer, printer, calculator, telephone, copier, facsimile machine and all other standard office equipment requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity. Balancing, crouching, grasping, pulling, reaching and stooping may also be required.
