Starting Salary Range $70,000. - $80,000.
Salary Range Exceeds Hiring Range
The Recreation Therapist performs professional work in planning, coordinating, and implementing inclusive and therapeutic recreation programs for individuals of all ages and abilities, with a focus on serving residents with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities. The position manages and operates the Belmont/Watertown S.P.O.R.T. program, a collaboration between the Town of Belmont and the City of Watertown. The Recreation Therapist ensures that participants have access to safe, engaging, and meaningful recreational opportunities that foster independence, skill development, and community integration. Performs all other related work as required.
Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Management, Special Education, or a related field required; Master’s Degree preferred. Two to three years of professional experience in therapeutic or inclusive recreation, preferably in a municipal or community-based setting, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) credential strongly preferred. Current CPR and First Aid certification required (or ability to obtain within six months of hire). Valid Massachusetts Class D driver’s license required.
This is a Benefits Eligible position, working 40 hours weekly.
