Therapeutic Recreation Specialist/Program Coordinator

The Town of Bedford is seeking a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist / Program Coordinator to fill an important position in the Recreation Department. The Therapeutic Recreation Specialist role provides direct inclusion support in adapting and modifying programs to meet the needs of a specific child or children enrolled in Bedford Recreation youth programs, at Kids Club (child care program) and with Summer Adventures (summer camp).  This part involves the leadership of activities for youth/young adults with and without disabilities and those who request support to participate in programming.

The Program Coordinator role includes performing supervisory and administrative duties for a variety of continuing recreational programs and activities. Plans, organizes, coordinates and administers seasonal recreation programs and activities for adults, youth and children.

Position requirements include Bachelors’ degree in therapeutic recreation, recreation management, sports management, physical education, or related field, and 1 to 3 years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and experience. A certification as a CTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist) is preferred.       

The salary for this position is $70,979 per year.  This role is 35 hour per week with the schedule of Monday 12:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Tuesday – Friday 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM.  The Town of Bedford offers a comprehensive benefits package.  Offer contingent upon successful CORI, SORI and DCF background record check; as well as the Fingerprint Criminal History Record Information check.
