The Town of Acton is seeking full-time applicants for the benefitted position of the Recreation Activities and Program Coordinator. This position will work directly under the Recreation Director.
General Duties and Responsibilities: This position will provide onsite supervision and training under the direction of the Recreational Director of seasonal staff and after-school program assistants. Supervision will include conducting staff reviews, scheduling, attendance records, and payroll. This position will work closely in developing, planning, and budgeting for NARA and Hilltop Camps; this includes instruction of programs, curriculum development, finding and maintain resources. This person will also create the yearly summer camp curriculum; which includes the themes, activities, field trips, and supplies per the Director’s review and approval. Ability to work flexible hours for facility oversight, afterschool programs, concerts and events; as necessary. Flexible work locations include the Recreation Center, NARA Park, Town Hall, Acton fields and facilities, and chaperone field/bus trips. This position will be required to work the Town’s annual Independence Day Celebration. Perform any and other duties as required by the Director.
Minimum Entrance Requirements: Two or three (2 or 3) years of experience planning and implementing programs and activities for adults and youth in a school, youth center, or recreational field. Previous supervisory experience and knowledge of public recreation programs. Bachelor’s Degree.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Management or a related field; Early Childhood Education or Teacher Certification; curriculum/program development and proven experience developing and implementing a successful youth or afterschool program. Experience with creating and tracking budgets and at least two (2) years of supervisory experience. Event planning and management experience a plus.
Special Requirements: CPR, First Aid, and AED certification must be current or completed within two (2) months of hire. Must have a valid Massachusetts Driver’s License. Must be able to obtain and maintain any license/certification to operate an after-school program within six (6) months through the Massachusetts Department of Early Childhood Education and Care; including obtaining a state voucher certification for scholarships.
